UALR Exchange Program at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne, England

Girard, Briana - Northumbria
Brianna Girard, Psychology

The UK is known as the first nation to undergo industrialization and is the one of the most powerful nations today.  Britons tend to be emotionally reserved, with moderate behavior and a wry sense of humor.  Your trip to the England will be a new and exciting experience!  Students participating in the UALR Exchange at Northumbria University will enjoy their stay in Newcastle upon Tyne, located in northern England.  Northumbria has approximately 33,500 students, 23% of whom are international. A thriving multi-national community of staff and students from over 136 countries ensures all students will receive a warm welcome.

The exchange program at Northumbria is open to all UALR majors!  Students can choose from a number of subject areas that are all taught in English.  For a list of courses, visit

Study Abroad Coursework: Prior to departure, all study abroad students are required to have their study abroad coursework pre-approved using the appropriate Course Pre-Approval Form.  Study Abroad will work with you to meet with the appropriate advisers and academic departments to do so in a timely manner.

Registering for Classes: Upon submission of a completed Study Abroad Course Pre-Approval Form, Study Abroad will directly enroll you in the appropriate number of Consortium hours. The Study Abroad Consortium Placeholder Courses (CONS) allow you to maintain your enrollment at UALR while abroad.

Transcripts and Grades: All study abroad students are responsible for ensuring that UALR Study Abroad receives an official transcript from their host institution.  Note that your host institution may take longer than expected to produce your official transcript. Upon receipt of the official transcript, Study Abroad will send the Study Abroad Course Pre-Approval Form and transcript to the appropriate academic department for final grading.  The final grades will be submitted to UALR Records and Registration for processing as UALR credit, and will count toward students' GPA.

Students will be assessed UALR tuition and fees for 12-15 credit hours for each semester they study abroad on this exchange.  Students are also responsible for their round-trip airfare, housing, meals, local transportation, books, passport, student visa, and other personal expenses.  UALR exchange programs allow students to determine their own extracurricular activities and housing options, giving each student the ability to opt for choices that meet their budget requirements.  Click on the Budget above for an estimated cost of attendance.
